Why a food nutrition database?

Since he was 10 David has been Type 1 Diabetic which means he injects Insulin, tests his blood sugar levels (endlessly) and counts carbs - for the uninitiated that's Carbohydrates. Due to the complications which all Diabetics can be affected with he also needs to have as healthy a diet as possible. That is high fibre, low fat and low salt.

The Database is the result of keeping David's Diabetes under control. It's as comprehensive as possible and is being continually added to and updated. It's a huge and never ending task though so treat all the values as "ball park" figures rather than absolute. If you want to help why not visit the contribute section above?

The other links above should be self explanatory. The Nutritional Lists link doesn't take you directly to a list - it's hundreds long, so it would be a huge page! Instead you search for the food you want, either by name type or brand name.

Hopefully you'll find what you're looking for but if not get in touch! Likewise, if you find the site usefully why not support it by becoming a sponsor?

Paul (Webmaster, Database Keeper and harassed parent)
